With the introduction of new food, cooking and nutrition aspects of the National Curriculum in England from September 2014, BNF has been developing a range of support materials and training opportunities for schools to help with implementation.
New resources are being devised to help schools unpack the slim-line curriculum (looking at progression, challenge and attainment), plan Schemes of Work and implement high quality food, cooking and nutrition teaching via new resources.
To support BNF has been:
- devising a food, cooking and nutrition progression framework, in partnership with others - this is known as the Core Competences;
- creating non-statutory guidance, specifically Schemes of Work for Year Groups 1 to 9, including individual Lesson plans for all years;
- running a series of national training events (all the training materials are available to download here - primary and secondary);
- running a series of online training sessions - for dates and topics (as well as recordings), click here.
To support teachers, the Scheme of Work for Years 7 to 9 are now available. These Schemes of Work are being provided as exemplar materials only - they are intended to provide guidance for schools to develop their own specific lessons, supporting pupil learning. Years 1 to 6 will be available in early October 2014. Schemes of Work - Year 7
, Year 8
and Year 9
The Schemes of Work, national training events and online training have been deveoped, written and presented by the British Nutrition Foundation, with the support from its members and other national organisations. Click here
